Up until 2006, the building consisted of a six story stone base originally built in 1928 and designed by Joseph Urban. [1] That base is a landmark and was going to be the podium for a much larger tower, which eventually became a casualty of the Great Depression.
In 2006, a tower was finally built as part of a redesign by Norman Foster. Fortunately, the original podium still remains. Judging by the base of the building, it's a shame the original from the 1920s-30s wasn't fully built out instead of the freak-show of a tower we see now. What do you think?
